Violet Review: Butterfly Cut / Dizzy's Counter!

Updated: Jun 2, 2019

Updated in May 2019

Violet the Master Swordman, some players are still considering if it is worth to build Violet or not - what gears and skill up order.

In the current Dizzy's meta, Violet is a wonderful counter and we clearly see more and more players rebuilding him.

Having both Evasion and S1 Counter-attack (with 65% chance to land attack debuff) activated during his s2 cooldown makes Violet annoying in PvP, and very useful against specific bosses in PvE / Banshae 11.

Even if he is not a main DPS, Violet has high attack base and is able to deal damage on enemy's turn with counter attacks - which can sometimes makes him close to your MVP on long fights.

The PROS:

- Very high attack base.

- His s1 has 65-75% chance to land attack debuff, that's golden.

- His s2 recovers health and grant him an extra turn. If the skill is on cooldown, increase Evasion Chance by 30%. After successfully evading, gains 1 Focus and counterattacks. Amount recovered is proportional to the caster's max Health.

- s1 has attack debuff for one turn - got to 2 turns if you soul burn it.

- s3 has damage dealt increases proportional to the amount of Focus consumed. If 5 Focus is consumed, resets cooldown of Butterfly Cut.

- OP for Banshae 11 frontline.

- Great PvP unit in both offence and defense - synergise very well with Assassin Cartuja to increase Evasion Chance.

- Awesome PvE frontline for specific bosses in Raids / Abyss.

- Can end solo some tense fights in PvP.

The CONS:

- He won't counter / evade if his s2 is not on cooldown, which makes him vulnerable - including at the start of the fight.

The TRICK:

A lot of users are recommending to avoid upgrading his s2 with one turn cooldown to have one more turn of potential evasion and counters. Your call here, but it also costs you 2 Molagoragos and 8 Black Curse Powders.

Most us didn't upgrade it just for that reason, it doesn't make a huge difference as well as he is healing himself pretty well on lifesteal with stats below.

The SET:

Lifesteal / Critical or HP works best for his sustain. His ability to dodge attack while counter-attacking helps to keep his HP balance while debuffing enemies with damage.

We like Attack% on Boots and Ring, Critical Damage% on Necklace.

Attack%, HP% and speed are the stats you will first focus on, with decent critical chance.

End game Violets on Lifesteal are 175+ speed, 15K+ HP, 3K attack and 70+ critical chance.

Few use Speed / Immunity set, allowing to switch Speed Boots for HP% - to reach 19K+HP and maxed his s2 for more healing.

The early STATS (based on average 70 level+ epic gears, maxed at 15):

Speed: 140+

- Attack: 3K+

- Def: 750+

- HP: 12K+

- Critical Chance: 70%+

- Critical Damage: depends if you wear a Crit Dam Neck or Att% Neck.

- Effectiveness: any remaining stats will help.

The ARTEFACTS:

- Moonlight Dreamblade: Increases Evasion Chance by 20%. After successfully evading, the caster is granted increased Attack for 1 turn.

Synergise perfectly with his skill set, perfect for PvP to consistently cast attack buff when attacked.

- Violet Talisman: Increases Attack by 1,5-3% and Evasion Chance by 1.5%-3% at the beginning of each turn. Each effect can stack up to 10 times and resets at the beginning of a battle.

Better for PvE as it needs few turns to stack it all and be very efficient.

- Rhianna & Luciella: 10-20% chance to be granted an extra turn at the end of the turn. Can be activated once per turn.

Can help to gain more HP back / trigger s3 more often.

- Devil Durst: 15- 30% chance to attack again with a Basic Attack after attacking with a Basic Attack if the target survives. Can be activated once per turn.

- Elyha's Knife: Penetrates Defense by 10- 20% when attacking an enemy not at max Health.

- Exorcist's Tonfa: A great budget artefact for overall use.

- Joker: For PvE.

PVP SET-UP:

Assassin Cartuja remains his best buddy wherever in Arena or Guild Wars. With both you can finally have a additional RNG evasive chance to survive speed cleave and finish them.

Violet is not mean to be a fast cleave or DPS unit, so better to cover him with fast support / healer for him to take that first turn and activate Evasion / Counter Attack.

How to counter a Violet in PvP:

1. As usual, any fast opener with CD reduction --> Stun--> Silence in that order to stop him before using his s2. FKluri too.

2. The Perfect Bait: Any water tank / healer with high HP and Res pool.

BE AWARE: Many Violet are built with immunity to avoid stuns / silence in PvP - so better to come with a stripper as F Kluri or the great Yuffine.

***The perfect moment to attack a Violet: When his S2 isn't on cooldown anymore, right there you can safely attack him as he won't counter-attack at all. So either early in the fight if you moves first, or on the turn where his s2 becomes available again.

Most of us use him in Banshae11, Raids, Arena and Guild Wars with great success.

Violet is definitely a well-rounded unit, worth to six stars for your overall progression.
