Dragon Ball Awakening Review: A Gem!

While Dragon Ball Legends hits the ratings on mobile, Dragon Ball Awakening is another Gatcha and a real RPG gem with an amazing content variety and with great 3D cut-scenes quality. We love it!

As per now, the game is only in Chinese but anyone can easily get through the different content of the game. Find here how to create a guest account and login afterwards (post coming).

The game brings you back from the Radditz to the Cell events - and some surprising side stories for the Akira Toryama aficionados! We won't spoil it.

The PROS:

- Amazing graphics / cut-scenes 3D quality.

- Can be played from iPhone 5S.

- Semi to fully automatic fights for easy progression and farming. It's like watching the anime, very dynamic!

- Very well balanced in between resources, daily and events.

- Includes tons of contents from PvE (main stories/ side events) to PvP (arena / tournaments / guild challenge).

- Very generous rewards, great for F2P.

- A delight for the Akira Toryama fans!

The CONS:

- Only available in Chinese as per now. Still, you can easily understand immediately how it works following the many tutorials you will have through your progression.

- You will have to switch your IOS/Android to the Chinese region just to upload the game (easy).

- Has a VIP system, which means P2P will have some additional resources, but still we are playing F2P and don't feel any restriction to our full enjoyment!

The GAMEPLAY: You can bring up to 5 heroes and 2 supports to your party.

You will unlock quickly the Semi-automatic mode (allowing you to do your Energy Attacks) and Fully-Automatic mode (unleashing your Ultimate Attacks).

You can manual fully your party (which you will do on some hard story event to keep your Ultimate attacks for the latest stage). Occasionally you will have a "Fight" on boss stage which requires you to tag your screen accurately on time!

The PROGRESSION:

Very well balanced, each time you are levelling up - you will have the ability to unlock gears and skills updates for each of your character.

Just in doing your daily missions and story, the game is offering all you need to keep you progressing without the absolute needs to farm the same stages again and again.

You have arena, tournaments, main and side stories, tournaments, special bosses events and much more to get through!

The STORY LINE:

From Radditz to Cell, you will relive all events in Dragon Ball with new 3D cut-scenes which are actually spot on the license and give honour to the Akira Toryama tales. Plus some very good surprises in the side-stories!

It is really the highlight of the game as they revamped the whole cut-scenes especially for this title, and did it so well.

The HEROES LIST & ABILITIES:

There are currently 33 heroes playable belonging from the Radditz/Freezer/Cell saga.

They have 2 categories: The frontliners (up to 2 heroes) and the Backliners (up to 3 heroes).

Plus, you have 2 slots for Special Characters Support.

Each Heroes has a specific set of two elemental advantages (Earth - Wind - Fire) and different damage skill (AOE damage, Stun, Single Target, Heal, etc).

On the enemies side, well..you will be surprised to find many characters from the early DragonBall tournaments and more!

The RESOURCES:

You will gather different resources across all contents which are specific to skill, gears, ki, heroes upgrades - including character (dupes) cards which are very important to unlock special skills.

The PVP:

At the moment, there are 4 different types of arena - no real time PvP.

Your team will be locked on full automatic for the classic PvP and you will have to pick up someone a bit ahead of you in the rankings to get some crystals rewards.

The PvE:

Plenty of different content, each of them are very important to clear gradually for your progression. The main story and side stories will open at a certain level and have to be farmed occasionally for some specific items.

Our TIPS:

- Up to level 40, keep upgrading 8 of your heroes evenly - step by step as some stages and challenges requires you to use up to 2 teams.

- About the Gatcha, save your crystals for the GOLD summons (to get potentially S characters) and use 9 cards to get 10 summons. Thus said, we managed to get our S heroes mostly from events rewards and keep our crystals for resources to level up.

- Krilin is very powerful and help us to go through the 40th level. "A" level heroes are not worse than "S" heroes, it all depends the stats. But later on, S heroes offers more extend and power.

- Few names who do great to us: Piccolo is a solid frontliner with high damage and self-sustain, C-18 hits like a truck, Captain Ginyu offers great team buff and can really steal the enemy body which can turn the fight in your favor.

- At last, Vegeta has a overall reasonable damage, useful knockdowns but we regret his ultimate does actually very little to compare to most characters.

Our TAKE:

There is plenty more to say but we hope it gives you a good feel about one of the greatest DragonBall 3D RPG we have been playing on mobile so far. A definitely must-try title for Akira Toryama fans, offering easy progression and generous resources for any F2P - and also for the VIPs!
